War Department commission under President Abraham Lincoln appointing William H Chenery as First Lieutenant in the fourteenth Regiment Rhode Island Heavy Artillery. ” Chenery is the author of “The Fourteenth Regiment Rhode Island Heavy Artillery in the war to Preserve the Union which can still be found for sale today. The letter then asks Chenery to respond back ASAP. What’s special is that included in this lot will be Chenery’s original letter of acceptance. I haven’t seen any other letters of acceptance accompanying such documents. Signed at the conclusion by Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton with a strong signature in dip ink. Please see photos for condition of wear and taping to the back. Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from JSA.
