Richard Ridgely, a delegate from Maryland, was born in Queen Caroline Parish, Anne Arundel County, MD, August 3, 1755. John’s College in Annapolis and was assistant clerk of the Council of Safety in 1776 and later clerk. He studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1780. He was elected a member of the Continental Congress in 1784 and 1785. He served in the Maryland state Senate from 1786 – 1791. He was appointed a judge of the county court on July 30, 1811, a position he held until he died on July 30, 1811. Graybill was a member of the German Regiment or 8. Maryland, an infantry unit that served about four and on-half years in the Continental Army. Authorized in May 1776, the regiment was an Extra Continental Regiment that recruited ethnic Germans from Maryland and Pennsylvania. The battalion fought at Trenton in December 1776. They were later in action at Assunpink Creek, where a number of its troops were captured. The next day they fought at Princeton. Nicholas Haussegger, who had been appointed to command the battalion, defected to the British. George Washington then appointed Henry Leonard d’Arendt to command the battalion. It served with the Virginia Brigade at Brandywine and Germantown. The following June, the German Battalion fought at Monmouth. Late in 1778, the unit was assigned to Edward Hand’s brigade and served in the Sullivan Expedition. It was dissolved in January 1781. Our goal is to please every customer.
